A team of Year 4 boys and girls entered a 7-a-side football tournament held at Cheam Park Farm last Friday. There were a total of 8 teams in the competition and Avenue were in Group B with Cheam Park Farm B, Epsom Downs and Robin Hood A.
We played Epsom Downs in the first game and were unfortunately beaten 2 – 0. However in the second match against Robin Hood A, Avenue started to gain confidence and become more familiar with the sticky pitch conditions – and went on to win 2 -1. In the final group game all that was needed was a draw to qualify for the next round, but Avenue pushed for the win. In the end though, a thrilling 0 – 0 draw was the result against Cheam Park Farm B.
This meant Avenue were through to the Semi Finals, where we met the winners of Group A; Cheam Park Farm A. Unfortunately we didn’t come out on top and lost the game against a very good side. In the end Epsom Downs won the tournament and were deserved winners, playing some great football.
Well done to all the children involved and thanks to all the parents for their support on a cold afternoon!
Also, well done to the Year 6 Boy’s Football team who won their league match against Nonsuch 4 – 2, last week. A special mention must go to Sam, who put in a Man of the Match performance, scoring a hatrick! With the other goal scorer being William in Year 5. Good work boys, it keeps us still in the hunt for the top spot and on high during the Christmas break!
And finally, the Year 6 Girl’s football team have one last game before the Christmas break; away against Westbourne this Friday afternoon, in the Surrey Cup. Good luck girls!
