Last Friday, a team of Year 3 – 6 went to the David Weir Centre to compete in 87th Annual District Sports. First were the heats in the sprints and the relays. Avenue did very well and out of the 16 races, 13 got into the finals! The children raced very well in the finals and as a result we were awarded the larger schools overall winners shield. This is a great achievement because Avenue haven’t won since 1994. Well done to all the children who were involved, and thanks to all the parents, friends and family who came to cheer the children on!
Last Friday evening , Avenue took part in the higher seeded swimming gala. The swimming team did an amazing job! The girls’ team won the relay and came first overall and the Boys’ team came second overall. Avenue were overall winners of the whole competition! Well done to everyone involved.
On Friday, the Avenue team, who qualified the week before, went to the Summer term Sutton School’s Year 4 football tournament at Cheam Park Farm. After a nervy group stage, Avenue progressed into the semi-finals of the tournament where they faced Cheam Common. In a close match Avenue managed to win 1-0 and progressed into the final, for the second year running, facing Cheam Park Farm. The match was again incredibly tight with the Avenue team hitting the woodwork but unfortunately losing the game 1-0. Well done to entire team who showed a great attitude all afternoon and well done for finishing second out of twenty-one teams!
On Thursday, two Avenue teams represented the school in the Summer Sutton School’s Football tournament at Cheam Park Farm. The first to play, Avenue B, managed to draw 2-2 with Cheam Park Farm and then followed up the result with a 3-0 victory against Avenue A, which qualified them a place in the finals on Friday 19th July. Avenue A needed a win to progress to the finals and played a tough Cheam Park Farm side, who were also looking for a good result to progress. The Avenue side had lots of possession and produced some fantastic chances, however the score ended 0-0. Unfortunately, this meant they did not qualify for the finals. Well done to both teams and good luck to Avenue B in next week’s finals!
