On Wednesday, a group of eight Year 5 and Year 6 girls traveled to Sutton Cricket Club to take part in the Sutton School’s Kwik Cricket tournament. After a close defeat to Westbourne Primary, the girls went on to beat Cheam Park Farm B’s by 7 runs. This allowed them to progress into the semi-final where they faced a tough St. Elpheges. The girls put up a valiant effort, but were defeated by a brilliant batting display by their opponents. They then went on to re-play Westbourne in the 3rd/4th place play-off. The game was a much closer affair, with some excellent batting and bowling from both sides, but Avenue managed to go on to win the game by three runs! Well done to all the girls involved!

Yesterday, the Year 5 Boys’ Football Team played against Westbourne in the Year 5 Cup Final.
The team had a lot of chances in front of goal in the first half but just couldn’t finish any of the off. Westbourne were clinical and took a 3 – 0 lead into half-time. Avenue came back strong in the second half and showed great spirit. Harvey (Player of Match) started to control the game more in midfield and 3 excellent finishes from Joshua up-front meant that the team got back into the game at 3 – 3. Unfortunately, Westbourne scored with a few minutes to go in the match and the team lost 4 – 3.
Well done to all the boys who were part of the team this year, it is a brilliant achievement to get through to the final and what a game of football to finish with! Thanks for all the support from family and friends.
The year 6 Boys’ Football Team played against Cheam Park Farm in the final of the Borough Cup at Westbourne on Friday.
The boys took a little while to settle into the game and Cheam Park Farm started strongly. Some great early saves from Max in goal gave the team confidence and as the game continued the boys started to enjoy more possession of the ball. Cheam Park Farm took the lead and then in the second half a nice through ball saw Jonathan hit the target and he made it level. Soon after, Cheam Park took the lead again, but the boys did not give up. With the best move of the match and a lovely cross into the box, Davis jumped above the defence to head the ball into the top corner. Then with minutes to go a good individual run from a Cheam Park player and an even better finish from an unlikely angle, meant that Cheam Park Farm won the game 3 – 2.
The boys put in their best performance all season and it was a great way to end the season. Well done boys!
The Year 6 girls’ football team played against Cheam Park Farm on Friday in the Borough Cup Final. Having won the League Championship Play Off the week before against the same opposition, the team were confident going into the match.
A well worked passing move in the first half saw Cerys through one on one with goalkeeper. She slotted the ball confidently into the left bottom corner to take a 1 – 0 lead into half time.
In the second half the whole team had to defend courageously and along with some excellent goalkeeping from Catherine the team managed to win 1 – 0.
Well done to all the girls who played in the game and to the whole squad. This year has been an extremely successful year for girls’ football – winning the Danone Cup, the League, League Championship and Borough Cup. Well done girls!
