On Monday, Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 took part in the ‘Avenue Question of Sport Quiz’ for InterHouse Sports.
The children were split into their houses in their own classrooms. There was a total of six rounds and they were – Olympics/Paralympics Round, Teacher Round, Video Round, Picture Round, Anagram and a Final Round. We learnt lots of interesting sport facts!
All the children really enjoyed the quiz and worked well in their teams. Some teams even got bonus points for showing excellent team work.
The results were: Blue 331, Green 325, Red, 298, Yellow 230.
Which meant the overall winners were Blue House! Well done!
Last night, the Year 6 B Team took on Westbourne in the final game of the Sutton FA Winter League, knowing a win in the game would win them the title. Starting slowly, the team went 1-0 down to a very good Westbourne goal. In Avenue’s only attack of the first half a deflection drew the game level just before half time. After half time, the team produced their best football of the season and with some superb, flowing football dominating the match and winning 5-2. This meant that Avenue won the league! Well done to everyone who took part throughout the league, a fully deserved title!
On 6th December some of the Year 6 boys’ football team took part in the 2016 AFC Wimbledon League Trust Kids Cup.
The boys played some great football on the day and were unlucky to lose the first game. The team began to pass the ball around better in the next game but missed key opportunities to take the lead and it ended up being a draw. The final two games the team took their chances in front of goal and won both of them, finishing 3rd in the group with 7 points. Well done to everyone involved!
The netball Team have had a very successful start to the season and in November both the Green and Blue Team beat Cheam Common.
On Friday, a team of seven children represented the school in the second round of league fixtures for this season. The children played some fantastic rugby and their attitude was incredible throughout. The quality of rugby was high and the children were unlucky to lose all three matches. Well done to everyone involved!
On Thursday, the Year 6 B team took on Cheam Park Farm at Sutton United. The boys played incredible well and if it wasn’t for some fantastic saves from the Cheam Park Farm keeper they would have won by more than the eventual 3-2 scoreline. With one league game left this Thursday, all is to play for in the league. Well done to all involved!
