On Thursday, 10 Year 5 and 6 boys went to Sutton United to play an important league match against Cheam Common. Unfortunately, illness meant we had to adjust the team on the day and we only went with one substitute. Still determined, the team turned up focused and warmed up incredibly well before kick off. From the outset the boys continued their hard work from the season and continued to close down a very good footballing side who wanted to pass the ball around. This pressure lead to a corner that Kian delivered brilliantly and the keeper parried into his own net. Continuing to press forward we were caught on the counter attack and Cheam Common finished neatly to make it 1-1. Louis continued to set the tone of the team and worked hard to close defenders and their goalkeeper, who when clearing hit Louis with the ball that trickled into the net. It was 2-1 at half time. Into the second half, we had a host of chances. Alex hit the crossbar from range and not one but two goal mouth scrambles but the score somehow managed to stay 2-1. After that, tiredness and our lack of subs started to show, with a few mistakes creeping into our game. This lead to a Cheam Common pouncing and scoring 3 late goals. Although the final result was disappointing, the players should hold their heads high as this was the best performance of the season. All the adults associated with the team wants to make it clear how proud they are of everyone who played in this game.
Well done all!
